Oldina Community Farm BBQ & Bonfire

We were lucky to have some decent weather recently to celebrate the Winter Solstice at the LWT Community Farm. We had particularly wanted to celebrate our great volunteers who do such amazing work week after week! We also celebrated how well the Farm looks, with lots of things growing in the main garden and in the polytunnel.

Social Activation Youth Team

We are immensely proud of the SAP team, of all that they have achieved to date, and we are currently planning future projects with them to both keep developing their skills and delivering wonderful events for our community. See below for thoughts from team members Kalani, Colby and Arnold, and a testimonial from Danai following the conclusion of their latest projects.

Kalani’s reflection report

As I reflect on completing my second Social Activation Project (SAP) grant, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude, pride, and appreciation for the journey we have shared over the past 6 months. Having previously been a part of SAP, I already knew how valuable the program could be, but this round offered an entirely different experience. The focus on climate change, environmental sustainability, waste reduction, cultural learning, community resilience, and strengthening connections with local organisations and services provided countless opportunities to expand our knowledge, challenge our thinking, and make meaningful contributions to our community.

This program has helped me grow both personally and professionally in ways I never expected. Through the workshops, community events, partnerships, and experiences we developed throughout the grant, I think my confidence has grown so much more, organising community activities, engaging with local organisations, and stepping into leadership opportunities. SAP encouraged me to take on new challenges, become more involved in my community, and develop a deeper understanding of the important role that collaboration plays in creating positive change.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this round of SAP was how practical and relevant every workshop and activity was. Every workshop provided real life skills, practical solutions, and valuable knowledge that people could apply in their own lives and share with others. One of my favourite parts of every event was hearing the conversations that took place among participants and community members. Some of the most memorable moments came when people would approach us and say things such as, “Wow, this is awesome,” or “We should have more events like this in our community.” Hearing that feedback made all the hard work worthwhile because it showed that the events were genuinely making a positive impact and providing something that people valued.

Colby’s highlights

Applying my art skills in events and preparing for events as that has helped me grow as an artist and has got my work out in the community. Helping people with things regardless of what it is, it’s really helped me be more understanding towards people. Running events, as that has made all the planing and work worth doing. Making connections not only with and for the community but also for me with my own business and projects. Being able to write out a script for welcome to country and then reading out said script. \Now I’m a part of multiple different communities and I’ve made friends I wouldn’t have met otherwise and I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given with SAP and I can’t wait for the next chapter for our team.

Arnolds highlights

  1. Working In a team because it helps me by working with others on project and events
  2. Making new friends is important from different perspectives and it is good to know them in a work area
  3. Setting up events and packing up helps me by planning and sorting in an event
  4. Helping people because it helps them and the person to work together as a team
  5. Learn different skills in a work area and events so I can further my skill sets and knowledge

Danai’s testimonial

I have had the pleasure of working alongside the LWT SAP team over the past six months as they successfully delivered fourteen events and workshops to the community. Throughout this time, I have witnessed the initiative, dedication, and growth of the three young people involved in SAP. They worked collaboratively to plan and deliver each event, demonstrating strong teamwork, commitment, and leadership skills. It has been particularly rewarding to see their confidence develop as they stepped outside their comfort zones, spoke in front of groups, and took on increasing responsibilities throughout the process. The impact of these events on the community has been evident. Through their delivery, community members gained valuable knowledge, increased awareness and understanding, and opportunities to build meaningful connections with others. The SAP team should be proud of the positive contribution they have made and the growth they have achieved both individually and as a team.

We love the SAP team!
