Live Well Tasmania update
Our recent Connect and Prepare workshop was well attended. Participants were keen to take it to the next level and conduct larger workshops with local council, community, business and emergency services. As awareness increases of the forecasts of increased natural disasters, we are looking for more oportunities to build community capacity in this area.
Social Activation Project update
The team continues to do great stuff. We recently had a visit from Vinnies, telling us about their Vinnies Van, Community meals and other activities. We also heard about volunteering opportunities with Vinnies Somerset. The past month we have helped the Food Relief people at the ROC to pack up their tables, products and produce and sweep the floors. This a constant task we will do each Friday till the end of the program if available. Last Friday we set up at the back of Woolworths to do a food drive for the ROC, we came home with a tub full of food items, we will take these items to the ROC this Friday when we help them pack up.
We will set up at the back of Woolworth for the next two Friday afternoon to gather donations for the ROC, we also have two tubs situated in Burrow and Nest at the LWT centre, please donate if you can.
Community Mondays – we have hosted the past two Mondays, cooking and serving the meals and also participating in the Scrapbooking sessions held before the lunch is served. We have cooked Pasta bakes for one Monday and Stew, soup and garlic bread on the other Monday.
Care Farming
The project is off to a great start, with very good feedback being received so far of the participants are feeling less stressed and are enjoying the activities that the project is based on. The project involves participants over two days per week to help establish a market garden, maintain the fruit orchard, help maintain walking tracks and establish a Bush Art Trail. We are also establishing a guided peer support group component which research shows is good for mental health.
The recent rain has helped with watering the garden, which so far has potatoes, snow peas and beans planted in it, and tomatoes have been planted in the polytunnel.
We have almost reached our maximum number of participants, but can fit one or two more people, so please get in touch if you or someone you know could benefit from the project.
Community Based Income Project
We continue to make progress particularly in terms of our video’s featuring Hannah Moloney, stand by for the official launch soon! We continue to meet with local government, who have been very receptive, and to build partnerships with other like minded organisations.
