Waratah-Wynyard Council update
Kicking Off the Community Christmas Collection in Wynyard!
Yesterday marked the start of the Community Christmas Collection 2024, bringing together the spirit of giving and kindness to help those in need this holiday season. Up until Dec 11, the Wonders of Wynyard will be collecting donations under the tree to support families across the municipality.
This year’s launch saw generous contributions from the Rotary Club (represented by Janet Lambert), Woolworths Wynyard (represented by Craig Richardson), and Lions Club (represented by Neville Woolley), with Neville noting, “it’s great to see the community come together.”
A huge thank you to Vinnies and Vincent Industries for their role in sorting and delivering donations. Vinnies representatives Chantelle French and Sarah Hedditch mentioned how the collection “makes it possible for all families in need within the municipality to have toys for their kids.” Last year, they reached 350 families and are aiming for a similar level of support this year.
Mayor Duniam invites everyone to make a meaningful donation (unwrapped!) to the Wonders of Wynyard of non-perishable food items, back-to-school supplies, cash contributions, and gift vouchers to brighten a family’s day!
Bark Park Now Open!
Located at the Wynyard Show Ground, the new dog park offers numerous advantages! Its proximity to the Wynyard CBD makes it easily accessible, being only a short walk from supermarkets, cafes, the Wynyard vet, the childcare centre, and other amenities. Additionally, for all the Coastal Pathway users, it is conveniently situated along the route (through Gutteridge Gardens), making it a great ‘paws’ spot for you and your furry friend! The park is equipped with essential amenities for dogs, including a water station, a poo bag dispenser, a toy box (which consists of community donated toys for dogs) and a cooling down pool. Importantly, Council funded secure fencing, including double gates at the two entry points to prevent dogs from escaping, meaning you can enjoy the undercover seating knowing that your fur baby is safe inside
Have you seen the beautiful chairs along the coastal pathway? This beautiful metal chair created by Adam and Clarissa has just been installed at Doctors Rocks in Wynyard. Both practice in traditional and modern blacksmithing and fabrication techniques. When the couple designed the chair, their aim was to create an oversized, whimsical piece that would give the illusion of making the person sitting in it appear smaller against the expansive landscape (as you will see in the last photo). The seat provides a spot for tourists and locals to stop, take a photo, relax, and engage with the beautiful Doctors Rocks landscape. The art chairs being installed along the Coastal Pathway are a Council initiative to incorporate public art in our municipality.
