Person Centred Evacuation Expo
Waratah-Wynyard Council, in partnership with the State Emergency Service, is hosting a Person Centred Evacuation Expo in Wynyard this November, and we’d love your help in spreading the word and also invite your attendance.
This is a really exciting initiative, designed to give people with disability, older residents, families, carers and the broader community an opportunity to experience what an emergency evacuation centre might look and feel like, before they ever find themselves needing one.
The idea is to take some of the uncertainty and anxiety out of emergency evacuations by providing a welcoming, supportive and practical experience where people can ask questions, meet emergency services personnel and better understand what to expect.
As far as we’re aware, this may be the first event of its kind in Tasmania, and potentially Australia, so we’re particularly excited to be involved.
What to expect
- Walk through a realistic evacuation centre set-up
- Meet SES, Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service personnel
- Explore emergency vehicles and equipment
- Live demonstrations and interactive activities
- Create your own guides or social stories at instant photo stations
- Free community BBQ
Bring the family, meet your emergency services and get ready to feel prepared. Be ready. Be confident. Together. The Expo is delivered in partnership with the SES Person Centred Emergency Preparedness Project. For enquiries, contact Waratah-Wynyard Council on (03) 6443 8333.
