Waratah-Wynyard Council update
Call out for Try Skills 2025
Waratah-Wynyard Council is pleased to announce the return of the Try Skills Program for 2025, with some new changes based on your feedback from last year!
Why Get Involved?
- Introduce our youth to new activities – Help young people discover community activities they might not have tried otherwise.
- Positive Exposure – Generate positive feedback and word of mouth for your club/group.
- Community Contribution – Give back to the community in a meaningful way.
Try Skills Details:
- Dates – October school holidays, from September 29th to October 3rd. This year, it’s just one week to maintain high participation rates!
- Sessions – Clubs/groups will run one-hour sessions (approximately). These can be one-off or multiple sessions.
- Participants – Open to students in grades 5, 6, and 7 from schools within our municipality.
- Activity Mix – We aim to offer a mix of active and passive recreation options
- Payment – Clubs/groups will receive $5 for your activity (whether it’s one session or three). This is to help promote participation and to make it accessible for all families. Our focus is on participation and positive experiences.
What We Need from Clubs/Community Groups:
- Program Delivery – Club members to deliver the sessions.
- Attendance Records – Provide WWC with a record of attendees for each session.
- Incident Reporting – Record and report any accidents or incidents.
- Volunteer Requirements – Club members/volunteers must have a Working with Vulnerable People card.
- Session Details – Let us know your session details by the end of August (the earlier, the better):
- Date and times
- Maximum capacity
What Council Will Do:
- Marketing – We will directly market the program to students (we will speak with every school).
- Administration – We will handle all administration tasks and forms for student details.
- Documentation – We will provide your groups with a clipboard and all necessary documentation.
- If you’re interested in participating in this year’s program, please reach out. We look forward to working with both returning and new groups to make this year’s Try Skills Program a success!
Boat Harbour Beach Master Plan Update
On 1 August (weather dependent), contractors will begin pouring concrete for the first floor of the new Surf Club building. This work should take one day. To ensure public safety, foreshore parking near Seeker’s Café (on Port Road) will be limited from 1 August until further notice. The new parking area and walkway are now open. Council encourages the community to begin using these instead of Port Road parking as Master Plan works continue. To access the new parking, please follow the detour via Cummings Street and Moore Street.
We thank @seekers_boatharbourbeach, Boat Harbour Beach Surf Life Saving Club and the wider community for their continued cooperation as we rejuvenate this beautiful space.
