Rambling Reveries by Karen Ashworth-Eck

The Art of Goodwill

hands trade kindness,

wordless, light –

an open gate

the borrowed rake

a returning art

in trust, not trade

a bag of apples for cider

waits on my weathered porch

while I deliver sun-warmed jars

of spiced plum jam

and eggs from our New Hampshire reds

what passes between us – neighbours, friends –

are seeds of joy

and the world is gentled

through our exchange

Through our simplest, most genuine and nearly effortless gestures we uplift one another – each act of everyday kindness sparks connection, affirms belonging, and encourages others, strengthening the wellbeing and resilience of the whole community.  As Scott Adams says…

‘Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness.  Every act creates a ripple with no logical end’
