Live Well Tasmania Update
The Live Well Tasmania volunteer project is coming to an end with just one more lot of training to be delivered during July (the Understanding Mental Wellbeing for Effective Communication course – see below for details). The volunteer Expo was the highlight of the project, with 22 organisations and 64 people in total attending. It was a great opportunity for networking, and finding out more about all the amazing things our community groups are doing in the North West! The Expo confirmed what we had been hearing that there is a huge need for more volunteers, and so many great volunteer opportunities. And we know how beneficial volunteering is to health and wellbeing…

These are the organisations who attended the Expo: Life without Barriers, Lobster Ponds Haven & Café, Kin Raising Kids, Sisters Beach Wildcare, ROC Community Food Hub, Meals on Wheels, Rotary, Vinnies, Australian Red Cross, Family Based Care Tasmania, Wynyard Community Garden, Coast FM, Wynyard Landcare, Sewers @ Live Well , EdConnectHospice Care Association, Biodiversity Alive, Tasmanian Fire Service & SES, Strive2Drive, and Squid Inc Theatre.
We are having a planning session at the Oldina Community Farm (1000 Oldina Road, Oldina) on the 5th of June at 10:30am, lunch provided, all welcome. There will also be a walk at the Farm organised by the Burnie Field Naturalist Club, meet at the Farm at 11am on the 15th of June. Learn from very knowledgeable people about the flora and fauna of North-West Tasmania.
There are three events coming up in July to watch out for: a screening of the film Larapinta End to End (on the 19th of July, to be confirmed), a workshop presented by the Trauma Awareness Network Austalia (date tba) and Understanding Mental Well Being for Effective Communication training (date tba).
We’re happy to announce a partnership with the ROC Community Food Hub for a Tasmanian Community Food Relief grant from the Department of Premier and Cabinet. The ROC will be able to buy some much needed equipment and we will grow much needed fresh produce at our community farm for the ROC. Anyone who wants to be involved in this please let us know.
Larapinta End to End
Larapinta End To End has been wowing audiences in Europe and Australia and has been entered into 23 film festivals so far. The film has been massively engaging viewers, encouraging discussion and debate, not only about ‘dignity of risk’ but wider human rights issues. It features Walter van Praag from Devonport, who is a big supporter of our Community Exchange Network Tasmania (CENTs) project. Film night at the Live Well Tasmania Community Centre, pot luck dinner at 6pm, film at 7pm (19th July, but to be confirmed).
