Inglis River Walking Track Upgrade – Esplanade to Cemetery section

Council will begin works on the Inglis River Walking Track (Esplanade to Cemetery section) from Monday 22 September 2025, with construction expected to be completed by mid-November 2025. This upgrade will deliver important improvements to safety, accessibility and amenity, including: A new 2.0m wide fine gravel track on higher ground beside The Esplanade, safer pedestrian crossings with kerb ramps and signage at Table Cape Road / Esplanade, a formalised carpark at the end of Austin Street with asphalt sealing of Cemetery Road, removal of old stair structures no longer fit for purpose, native revegetation and habitat improvements along the river corridor, reduction in road width at the west end of The Esplanade to provide space for the path and improve road safety at the corner.

Council is working in partnership with Wynyard Landcare to deliver revegetation and biodiversity outcomes, with a strong focus on protecting habitat for local species. Nearby residents have been mailed details of the works, including advice regarding road narrowing and parking space restrictions. Traffic control will be in place and local access will be maintained during construction. Thank you to the community for your patience while these important works are carried out.
